5 signs it’s time to refresh your website

Your website is often the first impression people get of your brand - and in today’s fast-moving digital world, first impressions count more than ever. Whether you built your site a few years ago or just feel like something’s not quite clicking anymore, it might be time for a refresh.

We are here to show you when your website could use a bit of love, and how updating it can make a big difference for your brand, your users, and your bottom line.

How to know when it’s time for a refresh

1. It looks outdated

Design trends change fast, and if your website still looks like it’s stuck in 2016, your visitors will notice. Dated fonts, clunky layouts, images that are past their prime can make your online presence feel less credible or relevant. A modern, visually appealing design helps build trust, showcases your professionalism, and reflects your brand’s personality in the best way possible.

What to do: Look at competitors’ sites or design trends in your industry. If yours looks noticeably older, it might be time for a design overhaul that brings it up to date.

2. It isn’t mobile friendly

More than half of all web traffic now comes from mobile devices. If your site isn’t responsive, meaning it doesn’t adjust and work well on phones and tablets, you’re likely losing visitors (and customers) without even realising it.

What to do: Check how your site performs on different devices. Is it easy to read, scroll and navigate? If not, a mobile-first redesign is essential.

3. Your content is out of date

Outdated product info, expired offers, or a blog that hasn’t been updated in two years can give users the impression your business isn’t active or paying attention. Content should be current, relevant and helpful, especially for SEO.

What to do: Audit your content regularly. Refresh text, update photos, remove old promotions and make sure your messaging still aligns with your goals.

4. It's slow to load

If your website takes more than a few seconds to load, people will bounce - plain and simple - possibly never to return. Speed not only affects user experience, but also impacts your rankings on search engines. A slow site can hurt both your credibility and visibility.

What to do: Use tools like Google PageSpeed Insights to see what’s slowing things down. You may need to optimise images, streamline code, or switch to a better hosting provider.

5. It's not converting visitors into customers

Are people visiting your site but not taking the next step - whether that’s filling out a form, making a purchase or contacting you? A site that doesn’t convert is a missed opportunity.

What to do: Look at your calls-to-action, contact forms and overall user journey. Are they clear, easy to find and persuasive? Small design tweaks or content changes can often lead to big results.
