Inventive solutions since 2006

We’re Inventive, an experienced team of designers, developers and digital specialists based in North Devon, working with businesses across the UK since 2006.

What began as a creative design and print studio has evolved into a broader digital agency, combining branding, websites, content, SEO, digital marketing and workflow-focused systems designed to help businesses grow, communicate more effectively and streamline operations.

Despite how much the industry has changed over the last two decades, our approach remains the same: straightforward advice, thoughtful creative work and long-term client relationships built on trust, reliability and results.

Designed & developed in-house

Everything we produce is created in-house by our own team, from branding and print design to websites, e-commerce platforms, SEO, digital marketing and custom digital systems.

We combine creativity with technical expertise to create work that not only looks great, but also improves visibility, supports growth and helps businesses operate more efficiently.

We rely on human creativity and experience at every stage, using AI only where it adds genuine value, such as research, workflow support or technical assistance, never to replace thoughtful design, strategy or client relationships.

With all our design, development and production expertise under one roof, we give clients a smooth, joined-up experience with no outsourcing, no jargon and no unnecessary fuss.

A team you can rely on

Creative thinking still sits at the core of everything we do, but today that also means understanding how branding, websites, content, search visibility and digital systems work together to support modern businesses.

We stay curious, keep up with changes in design and technology, and bring that knowledge into every project, helping clients adapt, evolve and stay competitive in a fast-changing digital landscape.

Our North Devon home plays a big part in who we are. Surrounded by coastline, countryside and a thriving creative community, we draw inspiration from the place we live, but our work travels far beyond it. With clients from London to the Scottish Highlands, we’re used to working remotely, collaborating closely and being as hands-on as you need us to be.

Friendly, efficient and easy to work with, we aim to feel like an extension of your own team.

Twenty years of evolution

Inventive was first imagined by Managing Director Stuart Welland in 2004, following many years leading the design and print department at one of the UK’s largest travel and tourism marketing agencies.

Recognising an opportunity to offer clients a more personal, creative and responsive service, Stuart established Inventive with a clear aim: to deliver high-quality creative work backed by outstanding customer service and long-term client relationships.

In 2005, following a client visit together in Manchester, Stuart discussed his plans for the business with colleague Mark Pearson over a couple of beers. Sharing the same ambitions for the company’s future, Mark joined the business as a Director shortly before trading began in 2006.

After securing a converted barn in Bideford as the company’s first office, the business quickly grew, expanding the team, broadening services and building long-term relationships with clients across the UK. It was during these early days that Studio Manager Nicol Eadie joined the business, becoming an integral part of the team and helping to shape the creative standards that remain at the heart of Inventive today.

Continued growth led to a move in 2008 to our current North Devon offices just outside Barnstaple, where we’ve continued to evolve our in-house team, services and technical capabilities ever since.

As client needs changed, so did Inventive. What began as a specialist design and print studio gradually expanded into web design and development, digital marketing, SEO and workflow-focused digital systems, allowing us to support businesses more comprehensively as the digital landscape evolved.

Today, many of the clients who joined us in the early days still work with us, and several team members have built long-term careers here, including Nicol, who remains a key part of the business more than 20 years later, alongside apprentices who joined us as teenagers and have since grown into experienced specialists within the business.

We’ve come a long way since those early conversations back in 2005, evolving from a small design and print studio into a wider creative and digital agency. But the ethos that built Inventive remains unchanged: putting our clients first, building trusted long-term relationships and delivering work that genuinely helps businesses move forward.

Sectors we specialise in

We have created memorable experiences with distinctive branding, print materials and websites for a range of hotels, resorts, holiday parks and tourism brands.

Our studio has collaborated with various product and lifestyle brands to create packaging, brochures and marketing campaigns that really engage with their target market.

From branding and signage, to brochures and websites, we've worked with housing developers, estate agents and property consultants to attract buyers and build trust.

Every business reaches a point where things start feeling unnecessarily complicated, but more software rarely fixes operational friction. Better systems do.
